Rubber Meets the Road: 4 Steps to Practice Presence in a Distracted World

  1. Put the Phone Face Down, or Out of Sight, During Key Conversations ➤ It sounds small, but it’s huge. Removing even visual distractions instantly tells the person in front of you: “You matter.” Presence starts with eliminating the noise.
  2. Before Any Meeting or Call, Pause and Ask: “What do they need from me right now?” ➤ Not what do I want to say, but how can I show up for them? This single shift pulls you out of self-focus and into service—and people feel it.
  3. Practice 2-Minute Eye Contact Daily (No Devices, No Agenda) ➤ With your spouse. Your child. Your client. Your team. Set a timer and just be there. Watch how much more you notice and how much more they open up.
  4. Show Up Online Like You Would In Person ➤ Speak to one person, not an audience. Use real words, not scripts. Be seen and let others feel seen. In a world full of perfect images, presence is the most magnetic thing you can offer.
