Imperfection is Reality

Have you ever known you need to do something for your business to truly thrive, but you just can't bring yourself to take that step? Maybe it's showing up authentically on social media or stepping into a new role that feels a little too big for you. Perhaps you've been avoiding it because you're afraid of your imperfections, flaws, or the idea of putting yourself out there.

I get it. I've been there too.

For years, my friend Kyle Draper encouraged me to get on video—whether for social media, my website, or anything else. Years! I put it off time and time again. I was worried about how I'd look and sound, and, honestly, I was terrified of showing up imperfectly. But eventually, I realized that perfection doesn't exist and that trying to be perfect only holds you back from making progress.

Imperfections Are Part of the Journey

Let's get something straight: imperfections are like breathing. We all have them. It's part of being human. And the more we accept our imperfections as part of who we are, the easier it becomes to show up authentically in everything we do.

Your imperfections are not a weakness; they are a strength. They are the very things that help you grow, learn, and develop. If we didn't have imperfections, we wouldn't have anything to improve upon, nothing to learn from. Instead of seeing your imperfections as flaws, start viewing them as your education syllabus. Every mistake, every awkward moment, and every step outside of your comfort zone is a lesson that brings you closer to the person and business you're meant to be.

The Fear of Imperfection

For years, I avoided putting myself on video because I was afraid of judgment. What would people think of me? Would they criticize my appearance? Would they think I didn't know what I was talking about? These fears can paralyze us if we let them. But imperfections aren't there to hold us back—they push us forward.

The more I avoided showing up authentically, the more I let fear run my business. But when I finally stepped out of my comfort zone and did it, I realized nobody is waiting for perfection. They are waiting for your voice, your perspective, and the value you bring, not a flawless version of you.

The Stretch Marks of Growth

When you push yourself to do something that scares you—like being on camera or speaking publicly—you will see "stretch marks". These are the moments of imperfection where you might stumble, fumble, or feel vulnerable. But here's the truth: those "stretch marks" are evidence of growth. They show you are stretching, learning, and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.

Instead of seeing these imperfections as reasons to stop, start viewing them as badges of courage. Every time you step into something uncomfortable and imperfect, you learn, evolve, and become more resilient. These stretch marks aren't signs of failure—they are signs that you are on the right track. You are developing into a stronger, more authentic version of yourself and your business.

Stop Waiting for Perfection

It's time to stop waiting for the "perfect" moment to start. Perfection doesn't exist; if you wait for it, you'll never take the necessary action to thrive. As I learned from Kyle, the best time to start is now. Imperfections are not something to hide—they are something to embrace.

The next time you feel scared to put yourself out there or make a move in your business because of imperfection, ask yourself: What am I waiting for? If you're waiting for perfection, you'll be waiting forever. The imperfect actions, the bold steps, and the authentic moments will move you forward.

Take Action Today

If you're still holding back, I encourage you to take one small action today. Show up for your business and yourself—imperfections and all. Whether posting your first video on social media, emailing your audience, or being vulnerable with someone in your network, just leap. Embrace your imperfections as part of your growth, and let them become your guide to success.

You've got this. You are worthy of showing up—not when you're perfect, but because you're perfectly you.
